Shocked

On May 12th I had a good friend pass away. He died in his sleep. He was 32. (I found out last night.)

I'll always remember him as my "single" daddy friend, while I was a single mom. His oldest son Michael is 9 months older than Victoria. (Michaels first tricycle was actually from me!) He now also has 2 other little boys Reilly & Russell. They are 5 & 2. His boys & my girls are pretty much ALL the same ages. He also leaves behind his gorgeous wife Joanna.

All through high school and about 4 years after, he was my favorite older brother that I never really had. He and I met in choir. We drove around like maniacs with his crazy loud stereo.

He was my rescuer. In late 2002 I flew to San Diego to visit Jesse and then flew back. My truck was having issues and upon returning to Sacramento I needed it jump started. After getting a jump by the airport service truck I headed up the 99 towards Chico. Barely outside of Sac I noticed sparks by my feet. I thought I was tired & seeing things. They continued & I also started smelling smoke. I pulled over. The fire trucks responded, put out my electrical fire & told me I couldn't drive it home. Duh. I needed to be towed. HAHA. I had NO money. I called my friend B & no answer. I called Nathan & he was on his way. He came and picked me up and drove me home to Chico. He spent the night at his parents. The next morning he took me back to Sac, called me a tow truck & used his AAA to have me towed all the way back to Chico. He was an angel then & he is again now. Nathan, you'll be missed big guy. Save me a seat.

  1. Very touching Sarah. It is really weird that he is the one who helped when the truck caught fire because I was just thinking of that incident like a week ago, and now I wonder if the day I was thinking of it, was the day Nathan passed. Ugh. I was not neccesarily crazy close with him or anything, but do have many choir memories with him and always thought he was such a good guy. So hard to lose people close, especially when they are our age.
Thanks for writing such a nice post.
    I love you.
